5 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Go to the Gym

As a personal trainer in Mclean, Virginia for over 20 years, I have worked with clients from all walks of life. I have worked with clients who are teenaged, and I have worked with clients who are seniors. I would say the most common request throughout all my years has been how to lose weight. So, what are the best methods to lose weight? Is it possible to solve the weight loss puzzle?

At its simplest form weight loss is dependent on calories in versus calories out. In other words, each day if you burn more calories than you take in you should experience weight loss. Now there are extraneous factors such as low thyroid which can hinder such a result but most commonly calories in versus calories out will be responsible for weight loss or weight gain. So how do we know how many calories we take it in?

Keeping a dietary journal or log is always a best practice. It is extremely important to know exactly how many calories you are consuming each day. Many think that they can eyeball it or just mentally think about it but this is where many make their mistake. By keeping a journal of everything that crosses your mouth you have an exact idea of how many calories you are taking in each day. Tally up your calories at the end of the day and get an idea of what caloric intake causes you to lose weight and what caloric intake causes you to gain weight.

Next, it is important to incorporate exercise. Exercise in cardio form can help us to burn calories which puts us in a more positive end of the calories in versus calories out equation. Resistance training should also be implemented reason being lean musculature burns more calories at rest of body fat. By incorporating resistance training and cardiovascular training into your fitness regimen you get the best of both worlds.

Finally, it is always good to get a blood test prior to engaging in a weight loss program. To look your best externally you got to make sure everything is running okay internally. I always recommend the client to get a blood work panel to test thyroid as well as other hormones to make sure that everything is running well optimally internally.

By examining all the areas listed above weight loss does not have to be so impossible. Now, remember to lose weight it is a marathon, not a sprint. Consistency over time is really what is going to help you get the best results.
