Hair Care: Fix Flyaways with These Helpful Tips

There’s nothing wrong with flyaway hairs. But let’s admit it, it’s easy to get fed up with frizz & flyaway strands when you’re styling your hair. You find yourself smoothing them down with hairspray over and over or reaching for the nearest pair of tweezers to rid them. Isn’t it better to find a solution that gives good, lasting results?

Today, we will share different ways to tame your flyaway hair strands. Who knows, one or two of these tips will finally address your ever-present issue of flyaways.

  • Find a frizz-fighting conditioner.

Fixing flyaways should start at the start of your hair care routine at home—not while you’re styling your mane. It’s also worth knowing that flyaways are often a result of dry hair. So one of the best ways to fix them is to use a frizz-fighting conditioner.

You can bump up hair hydration even more by using a conditioning mask at least once a week. Apply it to your strands before going to the shower. And wait a few minutes before rinsing it to allow the warm steam of your shower to help the product penetrate your hair and lock in more moisture. Also, limit the number of times you shampoo your hair in a week, as it can strip the hair of much-needed moisture.

  • Swap your regular towels for microfibre bath towels.

Bath towels are often made with thicker fibres that can be rough on wet hair strands and cause more frizz and flyaways. If it’s viable, swap your regular bath towels for microfibre options with ultrafine fibres. If that isn’t an option, you can also use a soft cotton t-shirt to dry your hair every day since its fibres are not too harsh on strands. Just make sure the shirt doesn’t contain embellishments that might pull or tug your wet strands and cause more hair damage.

  • Use a wide-tooth comb.

Timing is crucial when brushing your hair. When you brush it when it’s starting to dry or all the way dry, you are more likely to have unwanted frizz. The sweetest spot is when your hair is slightly dry—and use a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush to detangle it. That’s especially beneficial if you have hair that is fragile and prone to snapping.

When using a wide-tooth comb, start at the ends of your hair and eventually make your way up. That is instead of the usual way of beginning at the roots and pulling downward. The unconventional way will ensure you don’t cause any hair breakage. In turn, you will have smooth, knot-free and frizz-free hair perfectly ready for styling.

  • Take a break from heat styling.

Sure, heat styling can be useful in preventing frizz, but overusing it will eventually bring hidden flyaways into the spotlight. So give your hair a break by wearing heat-free hairstyles from time to time. It’s better just to let your hair air-dry, but if you really need to use your curling iron or blow-dryer, don’t forget to use a heat-protectant spray. Use it before styling your hair to block the heat from inflicting further damage to your already-fragile strands. And after heat styling, apply lightweight hair oil to reinfuse moisture into parched strands that usually fly away or turn into frizz.

  • Get a much-needed haircut.

If your flyaways are caused by split ends, hair breakage or chemical damage, it’s best to get a haircut to put an end to these flyaways. There’s no use in keeping weak & unhealthy strands anyway. So if that’s the case, make an appointment with your go-to stylist soon to ensure a proper haircut & hair care.
