Foods That Can Help Cure Mouth Ulcer

Mouth ulcer can bring certain problems which are painful particularly when you east anything or chew anything through mouth. If you are facing mouth ulcer that is recurrent, severe and lasting for more than fifteen days, you need to consult your doctor and undergo treatment.

This is because moth ulcer is sometimes a symptom showing some other underlying health disorders such as celiac disease. However, mouth ulcers can be cured at home by making few changes in regular diet. Such simple changes in regular diet can help cure severe mouth ulcers within a week and are proven to be effective as well.

Avoid citrus foods:

Citrus foods such as lemon, orange etc should not be consumed when you are already facing the problem of mouth ulcer. Citric fruits have acidic properties and tend to exacerbate the intensity of mouth ulcer.

 Avoid Acidic foods:

Besides citric foods, foods that are abundant in acidic properties can cause acidity in mouth and might exacerbate ulcer and hence they should not be consumed, if you are already suffering from mouth ulcer. Foods such as tomatoes, pickles and salads with vinegar should not be consumed.

Avoid salt and spicy food:

Salt and spicy foods can aggravate pain during mouth ulcer. Highly spicy foods and pretzels should not be consumed when you are already suffering from mouth ulcer.

Avoid seeds and nuts:

You should avoid consuming seeds and nuts when you are a victim of mouth ulcer. Nuts and seeds are abrasive and can lead to scraping or aggravating wounds caused due to mouth ulcers.

Avoid gluten foods:

An intestinal disease known as Celiac disease can also cause mouth ulcer. If this disease is the reason behind your mouth ulcer, you should not consume foods prepared using gluten. Cereals and wheat contains gluten and should not be consumed when you are suffering from mouth ulcer.

Avoid caffeine:

Caffeinated drinks such as colas, coffee should not be consumed when you are already suffering from mouth ulcer. Stop consuming them until the symptoms of mouth ulcer subside.

Include fruits:

Consume fruits such as apricots, mangoes, apples, peaches, pears, berries etc. It is suggested to take moderate quantity of fruits that are abundant in acidic properties until symptoms of mouth ulcer subside.

Sweets:

Limit intake of sweets when you are suffering from mouth ulcer as sugar is a fertile area for bacteria to colonize in your mouth and it might even worsen the condition. It might also delay the healing wounds in your mouth caused due to mouth ulcer.

Iron abundant foods:

Include foods that are abundant in iron content such as green leafy vegetables, pulses, meat, dried fruits, pulses, raisin etc. You can also consume iron supplements regularly as well.

Onion and garlic:

Both garlic and onion are abundant in antioxidants which can help combat this condition. You can consume them raw or use them while cooking your food.

Cold foods and beverages:

Cold smoothies and juices can help soothe the pain caused due to mouth ulcers. Ice creams, cold milk, ice tea etc can be consumed to soothe the pain.
